I have been meaning to post this update for quite some time. Especially now that I have lived in a totally different climate for over a year.
I have not used shampoo in 4 1/2 years... Let that sink in... No, my hair is not stinky, greasy, or dirty and I am not bald. I have long curly color-treated hair and it has never been better! Not using shampoo was the best thing for my hair!
Granted this method will not work for everyone, because we all have different hair types. My hair is not oily at all, its dry, this may not work for someone with oily hair.
My hair used to be frizzy with lots of static and when I wore it down I had to use a lot of moose or gel. Now all I use is conditioner, two different types in the shower and a leave-in conditioner after! I only wash my hair every other day and I usually rinse it in the shower if I'm not washing it. My hair is healthy, smooth and soft!
I don't have before and after pictures, but if you're familiar with the Harry Potter movies, think of the transformation Hermione Granger's hair had from the first movie to the last!!!
I was given the opportunity to do a review for Canvas Factory and received a 16x20 inch (40x50cm) canvas that I could design myself with any picture I choose! Also I will be giving away another canvas of the same size for one lucky winner to customize for their very own!!
Since I do not have a recent family photo to use I went with a picture of a beautiful city view with an inspirational quote!
I must say I am very happy with how it turned out!
The Canvas Factory website is super easy to use, simply select "Create a Canvas" and it walks you through all the various options to customize your very own work of art!
During customization there are three options as to what wrap style you would like, I chose the Gallery Wrap, which has the image continue over the side of the canvas. You can also choose a solid color on the edge or a Mirror Image Wrap.
My canvas arrived nicely bubble wrapped to ensure it was not damaged during delivery! I was happy to discover the canvas already included a hook for hanging on the back!
I have bought canvas prints from stores and even painted my own that did not have a hook which then requires either trying to purchase and attach a hook or simply balancing the canvas on a nail which does not always work well.
I really like all the different creative options that Canvas Factory offers! Also, its not just canvas, you can also put your favorite prints on Acrylic Glass and Aluminum!
TO ENTER TO WIN YOUR OWN CANVAS:
Leave a comment and tell me what picture you would like to use on your canvas. Also, Tell me how to contact you (email @where.com, Facebook @name, twitter @name) **If I can't contact you, you can't win.

I can not wait for Autumn to begin! I am over the summer heat and ready for the beautiful fall colors! I only wish it lasted longer, Autumn is over all too quickly and then the snow will begin and freeze my toes...
Facebook is covered with "back to school pictures" my kids have not started yet but the beginning is just around the corner. Then the homework madness will ensue.
We have had a good summer! It was difficult having my kids gone for three weeks but also a nice break for me, which I don't get too often. I missed them like crazy and cried the moment my children were back in my arms again.
My kids are spending three weeks with their dad which means I am Kid-Free for 3 weeks...
The day I took the kids to the airport, afterwards a friend of mine asked "are congratulations or condolences in order?" which was very fitting. On the one hand I miss my kids like crazy, yet it is nice getting a break from being mom all the time. Being able to run errands by myself, go out if I want without needing a sitter, I only have myself to take care of. I don't get breaks very often so I am trying to make the most of it and focus on the positive rather than how much I miss them both.
I will certainly have a lot less laundry to do for these three weeks!!!
I put together an indoor scavenger hunt for my kiddos, who are now 13 & 9. I have been trying to find new ways to entertain them this summer without electronics and without "needing" to go somewhere. The older they get the harder it seems to be... However the scavenger hunt was a TOTAL SUCCESS!! They worked together taking turns, used their imaginations and had fun!!!
For #46, they took a picture of me!!
I compiled several scavenger hunt lists I found online to make one long one! I had my kids take pictures of everything they found as well as write down what they found or where they found it. I have a list of 100 items and I decided to divide it in half instead of doing it all in one day. Not that it took my kids very long to get through the list, I wanted to get more than one day of entertainment out of it. We also might do an alphabet scavenger hunt!
Here is my list if you would like to use it yourself! I included some fun "rules" at the bottom! Ill post the second list after we do it.
Indoor Picture Scavenger Hunt (list 1)
4.Something you can eat
5.Something you wear on your feet
It seem a little silly how much I love holding this in my hands! It is not even a real book yet, but it is a work in progress and just having something to hold, something tangible, makes it seem more real! It makes the dream seem like more of a reality!!!
I printed the first rough draft so I could easily re-read it and make notes and such for editing.
I once hoped to have it completed by now, but life has gotten in the way a bit and writing a book can be a slow process. Hopefully it wont take too much longer.
In my previous post about my book "Letters & Lies" I mentioned my book will be available on Amazon. I plan to self-publish at first, but also hope to find a publisher for hard copies as well.
I have been single for over a year now. I do not need a man in my life, nor am I wanting a relationship exactly, but I am ready to date. Have fun, be ME, once in a while, not just MOM. The problem is, I don't know how?
I never really did the "dating thing" I was trying to when I met the EX. I will know better this time if some guy tries to sweep me off my feet. I have kids now to think about. They are a huge factor in me dating. It will be a long time before I even consider introducing my kids to a man I am dating and it would obviously have to be a relationship I see going somewhere before the guy would get the privilege of meeting my children.
My main question is, how do I meet men to date? In the very far past, guys I had relationships with I met at bars, school, mutual friends... None of those are options for me anymore.
I do not go to bars anymore, my school is online, and the friends option doesn't work, everyone is already married. I've considered the online dating and dating apps but I don't want to pay the membership fees for the good sights and the free ones seem to be people just looking to "hook-up".
Any thoughts? I think I need some single friends to hang out with... Other single moms...
The instant gratification part was my sisters idea so I cant take full credit.
I have had a chore chart for my kids for quite some time. Recently my daughter requested a raise in the amount of money she earns per chore, to which I agreed and added this new intensive with instant gratification.
I must confess I have been very bad about paying out allowance in the past. There was a constant tally of IOU's on sticky notes. I rarely have cash on hand so at the end of the week I wouldn't have the cash to pay the kids for doing chores... So I would add it up and write it down at least... Well, my sister gave me the idea of having the money kept on the fridge so as soon as the chore was done my daughter, or son, could get paid immediately!
I decided to still keep the star chart so I could keep track throughout the week of who was doing what chores and when. The same set of chores are listed on the chart and above where the money is! If you can't tell from the picture the three smaller magnets are holding coins, 2 quarters each and everything else is $1. The chores list I made in Excel and printed it on a magnetic sheet! My daughter is the orange stars, she typically does more chores than my son who is green. As you can see, she did several chores yesterday!! I have plenty of cash on hand for now and I decided to get 20 ones at a time and keep it in a jar in my house so I do not spend it elsewhere!!
My kids also have chores they do not get paid for, which are cleaning up their own dishes after meals, putting away their own laundry and of course cleaning their own rooms.
With summer approaching I will have some more outside chores they can do, like picking up sticks in the backyard! Too bad neither one of them are big enough to use the lawn mower yet... That will remain my chore...
What type of chores do your kids do? Do you pay allowance for chores or just because?
For so many years I felt kinda guilty that my kids had never experienced snow.
Although I certainly did not miss it myself.
I grew up in Colorado. I have many great memories from my childhood of playing in the snow! From building an igloo in my front yard, making snow angles, going sledding. Building a slide in a friends backyard and we got it wet, which froze, to make us slide better and faster!! Not to mention the occasional "SNOW DAY", waiting impatiently while the schools being closed are announced over the radio! Or being totally disappointed when so many private schools were closed and yet my public school was not...
My kids were growing up without experiencing all of this... We lived in warmer climates where it didn't snow... Well, not anymore! Finally, at the ages of 12 & 8, this past winter, my children have been able to experience a REAL winter including lots of snow!!! They have gotten to play in the snow and go sledding and make snow angles! We have had two Snow Days so far! We were all so excited when it snowed for the first this this winter! I was just as excited for them to see snow, as they were to see it!!! Thankfully they seem to have acclimated much better than I have to the colder climate. I am cold all the time, my hands are always cold, but it's worth it. I'm happy to be living back in Colorado again!
So, I have had one of these sitting around my bedroom for quite sometime with no use for it. It used to be under the sink in my bathroom to help organize all the junk under there. Also works in kitchen cabinets. After I moved I didn't need it under the sink anymore so it has been in the corner of my bedroom not being used.
Tonight as I was getting comfortable in bed and putting my laptop on my lap I realized it would make the perfect table for my laptop! It elevates my laptop slightly and it sits flat instead of being at a weird angle on my lap and it also allows for airflow underneath as well.
It would also work great for holding a tray to serve breakfast in bed, of course I wont be using it for that.
In the beginning of January 2015, we adopter another cat from a local animal shelter. We named him Loki, although he wasn’t a Loki at all, he was only a year old, (the size of a small cat, but not full grown) he was pretty, sweet, loving and he liked to cuddle! My favorite type of cat! We already had another cat in the house named Ginger. Loki was the best cat and he was certainly a momma’s boy, he would follow me around the house and was always on my lap whenever I was sitting down! Even in an office chair when I was at my computer he would climb in my lap!
When I was out of town at the end of February, while the Ex was moving out of the house, Loki went missing…
Maybe he was looking for me, maybe he was freaked out by Ex moving things out of the house. Loki had certainly not had time to bond with Ex the way he did with me. Who knows, but when I came back home, not only had my husband left me, but my sweet Loki was missing also… I held out hope for many weeks that he would turn up. He never did and I eventually gave up. There was a wooded area down the street where coyote’s lived and I assumed they got him…
After we returned from our trip to Colorado over the summer my kids were down the street playing with the neighborhood kids who lived there and the kids claimed they had seen our cat Loki… I didn’t want to believe them at first, I certainly didn’t want to get my hopes up, after-all how could Loki still be alive, he had been missing for 5 months? I found a picture of Loki on my phone to show the kids and they were sure it was him. Still skeptical I was eventually able to show the picture to the kids mother, whom had also seen the cat and said they had been feeding him tuna. The mom also said she was sure it was Loki!!
It has been almost a year since he left me (and our children) and yet I am still nowhere near being officially divorced.
Why you ask? First off, the state of California does have a 6 month time frame and there was also a delay in the initial filing due to a deployment which he did not even complete. But once something was filed the clock started ticking and even the 6 months should be up by now. Primarily, he will not agree to terms (regarding money) for the final judgment (divorce decree) and he keeps dragging me back to court because he is unhappy with the amount of support he has to pay.
He is of course paying child support and he is also paying spousal maintenance A.K.A. alimony, which I think he never imagined he would have to pay. I have not had a full-time job in over 13 years. I have had a few part-time work from home jobs but nothing that relates to relevant experience to help me get a job outside of the home now. I have primarily been a stay at home mom for the last 13 years. All this qualifies me to receive spousal maintenance and he is really pissed-off about that.
My socks rarely match, not because I have lost the matching pair, but because I mismatch them on purpose because its more fun that way!!
Also, I LOVE toe socks! I recently found these two pairs of socks at Walgreens and of course I could not resist mismatching them!!!
Do you mismatch your socks or does this drive you crazy?
I have bought 1 set of 6 pairs of crazy patterned socks that came unmatched, but mostly I will just mismatch my regular socks. Even the solid color socks! The only time my socks match is when they are plane white or black and that is only because my white and black socks are very different from the others and the socks have to be the same style for me to mismatch them.
Both my kids also wear mismatched socks!! My sister thinks we are all crazy! It drives her nuts!!
In the United States, there’s an organisation called the Nurse-Family Partnership that works with families all over the country and its territories to empower mothers in poverty.
With the use of evidence-based home visiting from nurses, they remind us how children everywhere need all the protection and support that they can get.
A lot of the time, donors look to fund programs that support kids through regular child sponsorships, but they aren't the only vulnerable demographics in the world. First-time mothers, especially those living in impoverished regions, need as much attention as expecting mothers in developed countries - if not more.
There are plenty of medical foundations and charities that aim to reduce the rates of stillbirths all over the world, but enough isn't being done to give them the strength to persevere through pregnancy and transition smoothly into motherhood.
I have been job hunting for quite some time now. The hardest part is, I haven't had a job outside the home in over 13 years... My most recent job experience is from 2002... Also, I can only work when my kids are in school...
I could possibly get a job in food service or retail, but that type of job experience is not going to help my resume or even pay above minimum wage. Not to mention those type of jobs require working on weekends and I don't want to have to pawn my kids off on my family every weekend and paying for a sitter isn't worth it. I would be working to pay the sitter.
Ideally I am hoping to find a job working from home so that I can work more flexible hours... It is so frustrating. Know-body wants to hire a stay at home mom who hasn't worked for 13 years. Not when they have another applicant who is younger with more experience and move availability... I'm going to be at the bottom of the pile every time... Not to mention I don't even have a degree since I haven't finished college yet... Still working on that, but its on the back-burner now since finding a job is my top priority. I regret not going back to school sooner and I really regret being financially dependent on Ex for the last 13 years. Although I do not regret being able to stay home and raise my kids, I am so glad I was able to do that.
I have never been so glad to have it be a new year. I see it as the beginning of a new start and a new future for myself and my kiddos!!!
Last year was horrible and I needed it to end!
My New Year's resolution is to be happy with myself and happy in live! Simple right?!
It is cold here in Colorado... I don't know if I will ever get used to it again... My hands are ALWAYS cold! It drives me nuts! I need to get back into crocheting again and make myself some finger-less gloves / arm warmers!! I found a whole bunch of patterns on Pinterest a while ago but have not gotten around to making any... At the rate I'm going I will make them over the summer and have for next winter! Haha!
Today is my kitty Loki's birthday! Well, sorta, it is the day I brought him home from the vet after we adopted him! He is my survivor kitty and has an exciting story that I will write later!
