Mommy My Fishy Light Is On (Scrolling Saturdays)

Scrolling Saturdays w Mrs. Marine

Scrolling Saturday, is a day to dig through your Archives and find an old post to re-post again, because it didn't get the exposure it deserves, or one your proud of and want to share it with your newer readers. Either way, it's up to you!

One of the best ideas I have ever had as a parent! For all of you who have kids who like to get up at the “But Crack of Dawn” (really early in the morning) try this:

A while back my daughter kept waking up at 5/6:00 in the morning and wanting to stay-up. NO!! If she gets up that early she will be a grouch by late afternoon because she has not taken a nap since she was 3. I would send her back to bed and she would come back out every 30 minutes wanting to know if it was time to get up yet.

Then I had my brilliant idea:
She has a Fish night light in her room, I plugged it into a timer and set the timer to turn on at 7:00 p.m. - Bedtime and turn off at 8:00 a.m. when it’s time to get up. So, not only does she know when it’s time to get out of bed in the morning, but she also knows when it’s time to go to bed at night.
Now if she wakes up too early she will stay in bed until her light turns off. She knows she can get out of bed to go potty and then go back to bed. Sometimes she will go back to sleep in the morning and other times she gets toys and plays quietly until her light goes off.

It’s funny, she will never admit to being tired, but when she is I have seen her watching her room to see if her light is on yet and she will make comments that her Fishy Light is going to be on soon.

  1. That fish timer is a great idea! It's difficult getting my toddler to sleep when she wants to keep playing.
