Aloha Friday #8 Halloween Costumes

Aloha Friday
What's Aloha Friday? Visit An Island Life to find out.

Question of the day:
What are your Halloween Costumes? Do the schools in your area let kids dress up?

A: Princess is Super Girl, Bobo is Super Boy! I am the Devil and Hubby is a person who went to Hell! Hubby and I are only dressing up tonight for the party were going to.
Princess only gets to wear her costume for Trick-Or-Treating, her school isn't doing anything... :(

Wordless Wednesday - I go a little crazy with the Halloween Decor, but its fun!

This is the last of the pictures of my Halloween decorations. I also have 3 light-up pumpkins sitting outside that I didn't take pictures of.

This is one of those window clings (I have a bunch all over the living room and dining room windows), its on the front of my microwave door!

Isn't Life Ironic

Have you ever made the right choice only to have it bite you in the ass?
Before I met my husband, when I was in my early 20's I would go out to dance clubs every weekend with my friend. Her and I always took turns being the DD (designated driver). One night after we had already gotten to the bar we decided to take a cab home so she didn't have to be the DD and we could both drink together. So, we left her car at the bar, took a cab back to my house and my friend crashed on the couch. The next morning I drove us back to the club to pick up her car. We both drove away from the bar and were heading down the highway, she was behind me in her car. I was about to change lanes and I glanced over my shoulder to check my blind spot when out of nowhere, the car in front of me slammed on there breaks. I rear-ended him and my friend rear-ended me. The airbag in my car went off, which broke the windshield.
Other than a what looked like a sunburn on my arms and chest and a slight bruise from the seat-belt I was unharmed and so was my friend. We were both more emotionally upset than anything else.

The icing on the cake, I had just gotten my car about 3 months before that, my very first brand new car (a green Ford Focus, I loved that car, we sold it before we moved here). And my friend was also driving a new car, she didn't even have the plates on it yet... Her's was a white Ford Mustan.

We made the right choice to take a cab when we had been drinking, only to get into a fluke accident the next morning. Not that I regret the choice in any way. Its just ironic how life works out that way sometimes.

I WON on eBay!!!

Have you ever bid on anything on eBay? Its kinda fun and exiting!!
Hubby and I both need (want) new cell phones, texting phones, and were not eligible to get them through our wireless provider for free or at a discount until late next year. So, we decided to buy phones on ebay.
I have been looking for the last week and annoyingly enough a lot of the auctions would end at 2 AM my time. Well, I am not staying up all night just to try to bid on eBay, I'm not that desperate for a new phone.
Finally I found 2 phones being sold together! And the auction was scheduled to end yesterday morning at 7:35. So, I did have to make sure I was up by 7:20 and on the computer waiting to click, click, click (bid, bid, bid) at the very last second to win!!! It was kinda exiting!!! (I know, Im a dork, I thrive on little excitement). I ended up paying $224 total for 2 phones, not bad!!! Which is less than the average price of $120 each on eBay. Not to mention getting both phones together is just easier, one payment, one shipping box, one seller. I'm exited to get a new phone!! Its a new toy!! Now I have to wait for them to get here.... I hate waiting....

What Hubby has been up to:

Hubby's last unit in VA he was with FAST Company (Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team). He had a different job than his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) the job he was originally trained to do in the Marine Corp. Well, the unit he is with here in HI he is now back to his MOS.
Hubby has been in the field training for the last 3 weeks, he will be home on Tuesday!
This is what he has been doing (he took these with his cell phone and texted them to me):

That big thing is a howitzer!
Its funny, he was actually exited to go to the field this time because he hasn't shot a howitzer in 4 years.

Hubby is the Chief of his gun, which he is very proud of as well, he is the one yelling "Fire!"

Marilyn Manson V.S. Baby Monitor

Never listen to Marilyn Manson while listening to a baby monitor... It plays tricks with your ears.
I am not a big Manson fan, he can be quite creepy, but I do like a few of his songs such as his remake of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" I love the original song more, but his remake is fun.
So, last night while I was cleaning up from dinner my IPod was playing on random. The kids were playing upstairs in Bobo's room and I could hear them on the baby monitor. That song came on, it was kinda loud, and I totally thought my kids were screaming in pain several times. I kept listening closer to the monitor, then paused the music, and heard them just talking. No screaming from the kids, it was just Manson...

I was unable to embed the original music video of this song. Have you seen it, its creepy. Good for Halloween though! I also like his remake of Tainted Love.

The Neighborhood Kids

Our last neighborhood had no other kids in it. There were only 10 houses on our last street and my kids were the only 2 on the street. Now we have 16 houses on the street and 11 kids (including mine) aging from 1-6. And actually there could be 1 or two more, there are a few houses that I have not seen the neighbors yet and have no idea who lives there.
There is one little girl, lets call her Jane, on the street who I am pretty sure is younger than Princess and she is outside by herself ALL the time. In fact, most of the kids are outside unsupervised. And Jane in particular, likes to come and ring my doorbell 5 times in a row when Bobo is sleeping to ask if Princess can come outside and play. One day, I was making dinner, and she kept coming to the door every 15 minutes. I watched her walk away from the door and there were no other kids outside for her to play with. Its like her parents kick her outside and wont let her come back in, so she is stuck outside board.
I will not let my kids play outside unless I am out there watching them. Princess is 6, she is kinda at the borderline age where maybe she could be outside without me. But mostly I don't trust her not to go into another kids house to play without my permission. Also she is WAY to friendly with strangers, I tell her not to talk to strangers but she doesn't like to listen.

Aloha Friday
What's Aloha Friday? Visit An Island Life to find out.

Question of the day:
Do you like candles, do you use them often?

A: I love candles, I have a Pumpkin Pie scented candle that I always use during October and November. Although with my kids I cant light it unless I put it up high out of reach, then I risk forgetting about it.... But it smells sooo good when I do!

Hubby's Allergic to His Wedding Ring

About 3/4 months ago Hubby noticed that the skin under his wedding ring was red and irritated. I kept having him put lotions and things on it with no luck healing the skin. He would leave his ring off for several days and it would go away. Once he put his ring back on his skin would get irritated again. We couldnt quite figure it out. Why would he all of a sudden be allergic to gold after 7 1/2 years of wearing a wedding ring. Granted there have been a few deployments where he was not allowed to wear it and he never wore it when he went to the field. It just seemed to weird that he would become allergic now after all this time.
I finally tried using jewelry cleaner and scrubbed his ring, still no luck. He cant wear his wedding ring for more than a day without getting red irritated skin underneath it. I did some searching on Google and sure enough I found you can develop an allergy to gold. It stinks. I also read that I can have a jeweler put something on it so it doesn't bother him. So, I will be looking into that. Its just so weird, my husband is allergic to his wedding ring.
Anyone else ever had this happen?

BUSTED.... Going 18 over...

So, yesterday I had to take Bobo to a Doctor appointment 30 minutes away at the nearby Military Hospital. It was only the second time I have left base without Hubby (if he is in the car, he is always driving) and the first time I went a different direction.
When driving off base the road becomes a major Highway. Right outside the gate the speed limit is 35 and a little further down the road it becomes 55. Lets just say, I sped up a little too soon.
Just a few blocks before the 55 speed limit sigh, two police officers were waiting for me (and a few other who made the same mistake I did).... BUSTED.....
It totally sucks, I am never going to live it down with Hubby, he never gets caught speeding. I was literally just a few blocks before the 55 zone. I sped up not realizing I had not passed the sign yet. My little mistake is going to cost me $147, I was going 53 when they got me....
Needless to say, I will be more careful from now on. And for the rest of my drive I was trying to be really conscious of my speed while all the other cars on the road are riding my bumper, cutting me off and zooming around me because I wasn't speeding like they were... Geez. I'm so mad...

Question of the day:
Its Fall and its October, where are you and what is your weather like today?

A: Today in Hawaii the high is 83, the low is 76 with scattered showers. I know, terrible right (sorry not trying to rub it in). I am actually missing fall weather right now. I love the when the leaves change color, in Virginia (our last duty station) it was so beautiful this time of year.

Flip Flops at School

I live in Hawaii, I can wear flip flops and sandals year round!! I love Flip Flops! Who doesn't? But I wont wear them if I am going to be walking a lot, if I need good support for my feet. That being said it really bothers me when I look at how many kids at Princess school are wearing Flip Flops. I would estimate a good 80% of the kids are wearing flip flops.
Princess wears tennis shoes every day, once in a while I let her wear her crocks. She's a kid, she runs around, we walk to and from school and I feel she needs to be wearing shoes that support her feet.
I love flip flops but I don't think there appropriate for kids to wear to school (elementary school). These kids are going to end up with foot problems and flat arches (among other things). Not to mention, flip flops offer no protection if you fall down or drop something on your foot.
Some parents just annoy me...

Note to Self: Never throw an overly full diaper - they burst

I am sure your wondering why I would be throwing a used diaper in the first place?...
During the day I use Cloth Diapers but at night (and when I wash the cloth diapers) I use the disposables. Because I dont use disposables very much I do not keep a trash can for them in Bobo's room. The bathroom door is directly across form his bedroom door, so usually I just roll the diaper up, strap it closed and toss it through the doors into the bathroom where either myself or Princess will put it in the trash can. Because if I set it down on the dresser next to the changing table I end up leaving it there.

The other morning Bobo's diaper was overly full (he had peed a lot throughout the night). I changed him and tossed it like I normally do and I thought I saw something when it hit the floor. Princess went to pick it up and said she stepped in something icky on the floor. Sure enough, the diaper had a small rip in it and the "absorbent filling" was falling out. Have you ever seen what it inside a diaper, especially after its been filled with liquid? It was grose.
Needless to say, I will never toss a full diaper again. And of course I have never, and will never toss a poopy diaper. Ewww.

"Toddlers and Tiaras" is WRONG

Have you seen this show? It is a pedophile breeding ground. I have been unfortunate enough to catch it on TV a time or two. First off, a mom was giving her little girl coffee. But that was by far the least appalling thing she did.
Who on earth came up with this concept? Hey, lets take these cute little girls, put them in crazy costumes, so much make-up they should be doing glamor shots, give them fake teeth, nails and tans and teach them how to parade around on stage doing proactive dances...
The thing is, a pageant (which is what its supposed to be) for children wouldn't be so bad if the kids participating actually looked like CHILDREN. Instead of looking like the little girls they are, there made up to look like sexy showgirls and porcelain dolls.
The girls are being taught that they are judged on there looks and they cant be beautiful unless everything about them is FAKE. Its disturbing.

Not to mention, the money the parents spend on getting there kids ready to "perform", the cost of the costumes, entering the "pageant", etc. etc. etc., would be much better spent in a college fund.
