I learned a new ingredient recently that seems weird to me, apple slices....
Growing up the way my mom always made it was with:
mayo, relish and hard boiled eggs (chopped into small pieces).
My husband had never heard of putting eggs in it until me, he likes lots of miracle whip (not mayo - either works for me). A friend of mine put tomato in hers. I tried that and its good but I still prefer the way my mom made it. Also its best when the bread is toasted.
